Whitetail True Score Scoring Rules

(IS) INSIDE SPREAD is the widest spread inside the main beams (MB) evenly measured between beams.

(T) TINES are all tines growing from the top of the beam upward , if tines are growing inward or outward they are still typical tines if they grow from top of beam. Tines must be 1 inch long to measure.

(ET) EXTRA TINES are all tines that aren’t growing from the top of the main beam.

(CB) COMMON BASE points are a tough call, but we are going to make it easy. Draw your (T) mark and measure from bottom of (MB) to your (T) mark and get that measurement. This will be your (CB) 1. Then measure from your (T) mark to the start of the (CB). This will be your (CB) 2. If your (CB) 1 is larger than your (CB) 2 you have a (CB) and would measure them as a T-1 and T-2. If (CB) 2 is larger than (CB) 1 you don’t have a (CB) and would measure as T-1 and ET.

Measurement Locations

(MB) MAIN BEAM measurement will be taken from the bottom of burr to the end of main beam along the outside middle of beam.

(M) MASS measurements are the circumference around the (MB) at predetermined spots. All deer will have 8 (M) measurements and no deer shall have more than 8 (M) measurements. A spike’s (M) will be taken right above the burr then multiply by 4 on each side. A 2 point side’s (M) will be taken at base right above burr and right above (T). You will then take each (M) and multiply by 2. A 3 point side will have your base (M) and then 2 (M) measurements right above your (T’s). Take your M-3 measurement and multiply it by 2 to get your 4 (M) measurements. On a 4 point side and up just measure at the 4 predetermined spots to get your 4 (M) measurements. An example is a 5 pointer with 2 points on one side and 3 points on the other. 2 point side measurements are M-1 is 3 2/8 and M-2 is 2 1/8 your mass on this side would be 3 2/8 + 3 2/8= 6 4/8 and 2 1/8 + 2 1/8= 4 2/8. So add 6 4/8 + 4 2/8= 10 6/8 on that side. Your 3 point side has M-1 is 4 0/8 your M-2 is 3 4/8 and your M-3 is 3 1/8. So double your M-3 , 3 1/8+3 1/8= 6 2/8 then add your 2 other (M) measurements for that side to get your total.
4 0/8+3 4/8+6 2/8=13 6/8. Now add both sides (M) together to get total.
13 6/8+10 6/8=24 4/8 is your total (M) for this deer.
