Welcome to Whitetail True Score

We are back up and running!!! Sorry for the long absence. I will be updating info. as soon as possible. Thanx, Doug doug@whitetailtruescore.com

Thank you for your interest in our services. Although the standard scoring system has been around for years, I feel there are some faults in it. First off I have nothing bad to say about the scoring systems, they are great and have there place. My opinions are that an “odd” numbered typical buck should get credit for what he grows, not scored as a “typical” even numbered buck. He grew what he grew and should not be looked upon differently!! Also what about the buck with a 7” mass measurement and a 5” corresponding mass measurement? He gets credit for 10” of mass not the 12” he grew. This scoring system will have no deducts and all mass measurements will be predetermined and not the smallest measurement. We don’t score turkeys with deductions! If one spur is 1 ¼ “ and the other is 1 ½” we get full credit for the spurs. Why are deer different?

Another concern is having a minimum score to enter your trophy. It is just that, ”your trophy”, and you shouldn’t be told it don’t score enough to be entered! A lot of places don’t have an abundance of 125” deer, so what are your odds of shooting a buck that big if there are only a few around. In certain places a 110” buck is like shooting a 140” buck in other places. Any deer a hunter shoots is a trophy and should be recognized as such. We will accept does also with their weight as the way to enter them. We as hunters have to decide to shoot or not to shoot. When the hunt is over lets try and appreciate the hunt and if lucky enough the harvest and not worry about what anybody else thinks. My outlook is this; Someone will shoot a bigger deer and someone will shoot a smaller one , but they all should mean the same to each hunter. Don’t belittle another hunter for shooting a deer! If it isn’t up to your self imposed standards, who cares it isn’t your deer! Congratulate him or her and go on. We are all hunters and should be happy for them!I hate to see a hunter shoot a great buck and because it doesn’t score XX inches he sees it as less of a trophy. An example is my brother Casey! He shoots a 5 ½ yr old buck on public land and is pumped. We get back to the shop, tape him and he will net 124” and change. He wont make the 125” minimum. Instantly Casey sees the deer as a less deer, because his antlers wont make the “book, not the mature trophy public land buck it is. It field dressed 205# a true monster.

2005 Big Buck

Our website will have a video to download and help with scoring and also we will be available for ?’s that arise. You will score your own deer and enter your measurements in 1/8” in the score sheet and send it to us. You will also need to e-mail or regular mail a picture with score, or weight, and age, date shoot, time of kill, and state. We will also randomly pick a youth and an adult each month to right a short story about there kill to be published on the website. We will post your picture and score or weight in the state it is harvested, by date harvested. This will also be a good way to keep track of when most of the deer are killed. This will help predict when you need to be hunting! In closing I love big whitetails and I know everyone that views this site feels the same. I want this to be for everybody to enjoy, especially the youth, so please score your deer using the video to the best of your ability and be proud of your deer and send it in for the world to enjoy!
